SAKHALIN CHAYVO BEACH
Russia

ExxonMobil presently offloads and loads barges at Chayvo Beach only when winds and waves are calm and sea ice has melted. To increase the amount of time during the year when safe operations may take place, Coast & Harbor Engineering (CHE) performed coastal engineering analysis, feasibility level design and cost-estimates for wave protection alternatives.

CHE performed the following project tasks:

Historical field data and literature review.
Performed 2-dimensional nearshore wave transformation modeling to evaluate wave climate in the barge facility for various storm conditions.
Alternatives analysis using 2-dimensional wave transformation modeling for barge breakwater, rubble-mound breakwater, geobag breakwater and an emergent sand dike with lee-side dredging.
One-dimensional sediment transport modeling under waves to determine stability of the preferred sand dike alternative.
  Preliminary design and specification assistance.
  Cost-estimates and construction recommendations.
